Super fun!
We loved renting paddle boards from here to take down the river! It is easily accessible and the crew does an awesome job at getting you all set up with a map, life jacket, board, directions, instructions, etc. I highly recommend doing this while in the cape! It's a beautiful way to explore :)

Wonderful day on Bass River for our first paddle board experience - excellent guidance and service. Highly recommend.
My husband and I are senior citizens who love kayaking. We have never tried paddle boarding. We decided to give it a try and went to Bass River Kayaks in West Dennis. Everyone was wonderful and so helpful explaining the techniques to use to us. This is a family owned business (for over 30 years). Everyone was so friendly, positive, and outgoing. Our introduction to paddle boarding included a video, demonstration, and maps. They took their time explaining everything to us and were most solicitous. As we paddled on Bass River, we came across lots of kayakers and paddlers - of all ages. If you are looking for an activity on the water for the family - look no further than Bass River Kayaks. Also, in addition to the water activities, they have a nice gift store with great Cape Cod gifts to purchase. We purchased a whale for our new granddaughter!

Fun staff, great experience

We enjoyed an afternoon kayaking with the help of Bass River Kayaks. Their friendly staff outfitted us, pointed out scenery and provided a waterproof map of the river and places to explore. Great prices, including reasonable pricing for cold drinks. We had a fun time, and will return on our next Cape vacation.

Great place and friendly people

I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Hyannis. The staff will try to get you in and out onto the lake with the least amount of fuss. They have a great inventory of sea going vessels. They have a short instructional course of the river system and the safety of boating including staying away from the shipping channel.

They also sell stuff you would require on your trip from water to waterproof bags and their rates are reasonable.

Me and my wife are first time kayakers but after the the initial launch we were pros thanks to the tricks the staff taught us. I would definitely visit them then next time I'm down there.

Great for all skill levels, friendly staff, fun activity
We walked in as total novices and had an amazing day! The staff were amazing - friendly, knowledgeable, and patient. The waterway was calm and safe, and even the fellow kayakers were friendly as they paddled by. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to partake in an activity like this, and will definitely be returning next year for another outing on the Bass River! Thank you to the staff at Bass River Kayaks and see you next year!

Paddle Board and Kayak FAQs

Q: I've never been paddle boarding before... is it hard?

A: At least half of our customers are 1st-timers!  It's more challenging to learn than kayaking, but our variety of boards, and helpful tips and tricks, make it fun for the whole family!  We recommend first time paddle boarders watch the instructional video in the paddle board shop, as it speeds up the learning curve!

Q: Is there a minimum age requirement?

A: Paddle boarding is slow-going for children under the age of 10.  If your group is trying to explore the river, we recommend kayaking- particularly tandems (two-seater kayaks) as young kids can kick back and relax! Tow ropes are available if kids get tired in their own kayak. Life jackets are provided for all (infant jackets available.)

Q: Is there a maximum age requirement?

A: No way!  Come and be our first 90-year old paddle boarder!

Q: Do you operate in the rain?

A: Generally our shop is pretty quiet when it rains.  Light rain is fine-particularly if it's passing through.  No water craft is allowed in the water if there is lightning.

Q: Do I need to bring anything?

We recommend a bathing suit, sunscreen, sunglasses and a bottle of water.  Dozens of smart phones rest at the bottom of the Bass River...so if Instagramming your day is a must, bring a FLOATING WATERPROOF case from home, or purchase one from our shop!

Our friendly crew will provide life jackets, instructions, and equipment.

Note: We are no longer at Bass River Park (40 Main St.), right next to Bass River Bridge. There is no changing rooms, electricity, or indoor restrooms at Bass River Park.  We are located at 118 Main St. (as we have been - in front of Sundancer's Restaurant) with access right on Bass River, changing room, indoor bathrooms and more.
